Group 4 flares: Granted, the stock lines of the Pantera are a sight to behold. However, my favorite look for the car is the wide stance of the Group 4. I have been razzed some of my buddies about cutting up this 1972 to make way for flares. It would seem that not everyone shares my enthusiasm over modifying a stock car with a strait unmolested body. I was drawn to the Pantera because of it's originality. You will more than likely never see two identical cars at any club event. These cars reflect the individuality of their owners. For me....it's gotta be wide and low. Here you see the painted components staged for the installation. James Jordan of www.jhpmotorsports.com has been helping me with most of the current modifications. If you need fabrication work done, James is yer man.
The first order of business was to mock up the car with the new body components and get an idea as to how much modification needs to be done. We opted to do the rear flares first. I had a set of 15x14 wheels donated to the cause from the good people at Bassett Wheels. We remounted the 345 series tires on the new wheels and installed them on the car. The flares were "taped" to the car for the initial placement.
The fender lined up with the creases that run horizontally along the body of the car. The rear running light seems to be only item of concern at this point. We removed them to allow for flush placement of the flares. Two hours and two rolls of packing tape later we had the final placement of the new flared fender. The black Pantera sticker will be extended through the new fenders once the final mounting is completed. At the time, we had a lack of stainless mounting hardware. James suggested going with 10x32x3/4 machine bolts and nylocks for the time being. It is easy enough to change out the hardware at a later date. We are going to have to come back at a later date and finish the cosmetics of the project.
